Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra: Symphonie Fantastique
About this event
Grammy Award-winning Eighth Blackbird joins the CSO for a premiere from Kinds of Kings, a U.S.-based composer collective amplifying and advocating for underrepresented voices. Nine Mothers is based on the “Nine Mothers” Norse mythology and the “Nine Sisters” the daughters of the goddess Rán and the jötunn (ancient proto-deity)Ægir, who both personify the sea. The work is dedicated to the composers’ nine mothers and grandmothers.
The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra continues its tradition of commissioning fanfares with a new co-commissioned fanfare, Herald, Holler and Hallelujah! by Wynton Marsalis, which begins the program.
The young Berlioz invents a new world with Symphonie fantastique—not only in its uncanny sonic imagination, but also in conception, construction and experimentation. Fueled by unrequited love, each movement envisages scenes of parties, loneliness, passion, drug induced dreams, Witches’ Sabbath and more.
This stream is available to watch until December 31, 2023.
